I’m Heather Ramsey
Nonprofit leader, program designer, consultant & coach
For 25 years, I've worked inside the social impact sector, designing and leading programs that connect people, technology, and resources in service of a mission. My work has spanned more than 30 countries, and it has always centered on the same conviction: that lasting change depends on organizations built to sustain themselves and people who are supported rather than depleted by the work.
My work
As founding director of TechWomen, I designed and led Secretary Clinton's State Department initiative connecting women in STEM across 23 countries with mentors at Silicon Valley's most innovative companies. I wrote the winning proposal and built the program from the ground up.
At the Institute of International Education, where I worked for nearly two decades, I led Women in Technology (WIT MENA), training thousands of women across nine countries in partnership with local NGOs, Cisco, and Microsoft. I also designed and led e-Mediat, a social media and citizen journalism program supporting NGOs across the Middle East and North Africa during the Arab Spring, and Women’s Enterprise for Sustainability in Tunisia. Through partnership with local women's organizations, these initiatives established sustainable, revenue-generating training centers, expanding resources and networks for tens of thousands of women and civil society leaders.
In 2015, I co-founded WAKE and created its flagship program, Tech2Empower, connecting women-led nonprofits around the world with volunteer advisors from more than 90 leading technology companies. From 2021 to 2025, I built and led WAKE's Advisory Board, recruiting women leaders from technology, finance, biotech, and social impact as allies for this work.
What I learned, and what I do now
The programs that lasted were locally led and financially sustainable. The organizations that thrived had funding models that freed them from the constant cycle of grant-seeking. And the people doing the work, including me, too often carried it to the point of burnout.
That last realization changed my path. After two decades in international exchange and development, I pursued a graduate degree in Integrative Health and certifications in coaching, guided meditation, and restorative practices. I came to believe that wellbeing is not separate from impact. It is the foundation that makes impact sustainable.
Today, through ConvergeWell, I bring both halves of that experience together. I partner with nonprofits and social impact leaders on strategy, sustainable program design, board engagement, and intentional, human-centered AI adoption, always grounded in an approach that strengthens people rather than depleting them.
I serve on the Board of Directors of The Women's Building of San Francisco, and on its Development, Events and AI Committees.
