What nonprofits are facing

The last couple of years have been hard and demoralizing for the nonprofit sector. Funding is being cut or disappearing altogether. The communities that nonprofits serve are being targeted, and economic disparity continues to widen. And, organizations and staff are being asked to do more with less.

At the same time, AI is arriving faster than teams can adapt, and the people carrying out the work are stretched thin to the point of burnout.

Organizations and teams navigating this need a thoughtful partner and strategist who understands the sector from the inside, provides new perspectives, knows the technology, and who keeps the work grounded in what matters most: the mission, the people, and a way of working that is sustainable over the long term.

That's the work I do.

I partner with organizations and leaders across four areas:

Strategy & Sustainable Program Design

I help organizations design programs, partnerships, and funding models built to last.

This draws on 25 years of building initiatives across more than 30 countries, working to make them locally led and financially sustainable, so the work can continue beyond any single grant or funding cycle.

Board and Organizational Engagement

I help boards and teams strengthen how they connect, decide, and lead together.

This is informed by hands-on experience building and leading nonprofit boards and advisory bodies from the ground up.

Human-Centered AI Adoption

I help teams adopt AI intentionally, in line with their values, with the governance, training, and workflows to use it well.

The goal is to put these tools to work for the mission while keeping human judgment, and people, at the center.

Foundational Wellbeing

All engagement is grounded the belief that a foundation of wellbeing strengthens your people, organization, and mission.

Sustainable impact depends on sustainable organizations, and sustainable people.

About Heather Ramsey

I'm Heather, and I've spent 25 years working the social impact sector, designing and leading programs that connect people, technology, and resources to advance social justice, women’s rights and education, across more than 30 countries.

This work taught me what makes change last: programs that are locally led with an engaged community, organizations built to sustain themselves, and by people who are supported rather than depleted by the work. I bring this lens to the organizations I partner with.

Focus areas include AI strategy and adoption, programmatic and organizational development and sustainability planning, and board, staff and community engagement.
